About it-
On May 7th 1846 a devastating landslide hit Lake Taupō. Sixty people were killed by the landslide, including the then paramount Chief. This landslide has held the record ever since May 7th 1846  for the highest death toll from a landslide. The horrific landslide was caused by a smaller landslide that shut off a river causing the water flow to build up. After 3 days later the water pressure became to immence for the land to take. What was holding the water crumbled apart, causing the unblocked force of the water swept up trees, rocks, and earth causing an avalanche. The avalanche swept into the lake, bringing people down with it, with only a few lucky survivors.

In 1910, yet another landslide took another life near the old site of Te Rapa. After the 2 devastating landslides the village was abandoned, hoping to prevent deaths.

So what?-

We think that this is important to know because it killed a lot of people at our biggest lake in New Zealand. It also shows what has happened in our history in our country. As well as taking the lives of 61 people, the landslide also killed a maori chief, Mananui Te Heuheu Tūkino II.

Holiday journal

Holiday journal
The first week of the holidays I didn't do much. Dad fixed Rose-elles and my bike so then we could go for a bike ride with Thomas. Once they were ready we went for a bike ride (this was late at night). The next day Dad took Thomas, Rose-elle, and I fire wooding we got stuck in the prickles and then the radiation hose blew so Dad had to fix it but he didn't have the tools. Luckily we had bottles of juice so Dad just cut open one and temporarily fixed the radiation hose. We left for fire wooding at 11am and got home at about 8pm. The next week was more interesting. We were going to go to Hokitika for the day, but Holly (my sister) called Mum and said that Tyson (my 1 year old nephew) was in hospital. Elizabeth and Thomas still went to Hokitika. Mum stayed at the hospital with Holly and Tyson for the day, Matt (Tysons Dad) went fire wooding so Rose-elle and I looked after Sapphire (My 4 year old Niece). We walked around for a bit then had lunch, we called Mum to come pick us up and take us back to Holly's house, once we got there I went back to the hospital with Mum. Tyson was not aloud out of his hospital room since he was in isolation. He stayed at the hospital for 3 nights. Mum, Rose-elle, Thomas, and I all stayed at Holly's to help out. I also went for some horse rides through the holidays.
