Waiuta the ghost town

Waiuta the ghost town

By Emily

Waiuta is now a West Coast ghost town. Waiuta is located south of Reefton. Waiuta was the largest gold mining town in 1906 until 1951 at the time. Waiuta had a population around 600 people and now it is completely abandoned. It is now a historical site and attracts many tourists.

The first mine

Waiuta was known for the gold mining industry until it shut down in 1951 because the mine collapsed making it uneconomic to re establish. The very first mineshaft was operated in 1908. It was extended in 1926. The first mine was called Blackwater north claim, but renamed the Prohibition. In 1938 the Prohibition took over all production. It reached around 879m deep. The mine produced nearly 750,000 ounces of gold (which is in today’s money $1,869,255,217).

Waiuta now

Waiuta is now a historic site, which is visited by many tourists. No one lives in Waiuta, it only has a lodge where people can stay. Today Waiuta is almost empty of all the old buildings, most of them were demolished. Waiuta is considered one of New Zealand's most popular ghost towns. Waiuta was once a successful gold mining town, but now it is completely abandoned. Only a few building stand and the mines are now in crumbles. Waiuta is a very popular historic site that many people visit to find out more information about the town.

Weekly reflection

Weekly reflection!

How has the first week gone?
My first has gone a bit bumpy. I didn't get into a rhythm straight away. Later in the week I managed my time really well. I got khan done, I did my personal inquiry and I have going by my trello. My week has been good but next week will be better because I will have a rhythm.
Does my personal inquiry project feel big or small?
I think that my inquiry could be bigger, it is a little simple. One of the reasons why it is simple is because I am also doing another inquiry with my friends and may be making a business.  I don't think that it is a problem that my photography project is simple.
Is my personal inquiry timetable effective?
I think that my timetable is really effective because I will always check it and I will follow it. I think my timetable is a guide to guide me where to go and what to do.
Will I continuously need to change my timetable?
I don't think I will need to because I have planned it out how I want to do my photography. The only time I probably need to change my timetable is because something comes up. I hope that I don't change my timetable that often.

Kiwi visit recount

Class Kiwi Creche Visit

By Emily and Eden

Intro-
The class journeyed far to Papora range to find the kiwi creche . Jo the kiwi protector was the expert that showed us around, she explained what the Kiwi Creche was all about and why it was out here. Jo also told us about the evil predators that are killing our native Kiwi.

Waiting for the Kiwi -
Jo pulled out an aerial to search for Juno the Kiwi, the Kiwi had a small harmless transmitter attached to her leg. There was a faint beeping which was Juno’s transmitter letting us know where she was. We then voyaged to where the kiwi was in hiding. Jo trekked through the tough gorse to locate the kiwi. We remained in a clearing for Jo to return with with the kiwi, the adrenaline rushed through our bodies while we waited.

Seeing the Kiwi-
Jo then fought her way out of the bristled gorse. She held in her scratched hand a twitching bag. Jo had returned with the kiwi her name was Juno. Jo tried her best to catch Kaipo but she couldn’t so she just brought Juno. Jo said for us to split into groups so then we didn’t over crowd Juno. Jo grasped hold of Juno’s struggling legs and heaved her out of the green bag. The brown speckled kiwi was confused and disturbed, she tried her best to escape out Jo’s hands. We were all speechless. The kiwi’s beautiful, soft feathers captured our attention. Jo carefully checked her health, since it was day time Juno was drifting of to sleep.

Personal comment-
Overall I think that this trip was an amazing opportunity for us. I was astonished about how many facts there were about kiwis. It was awesome to be so close to our kiwi. Seeing the kiwi wasn’t the only good part, learning about the kiwi’s themselves was shocking.

Hansel and Gretel poem

In the forest!
The mud squelches between our soggy freezing toes,
The old trees whistle while the wild wind blows,
The dark forest became silent as we swiftly strolled,
The swampy dying trees are filled with revolting mold.
We approached the peaceful river attached to the calm water bed,
Slowly drinking from the water something horrid fills our noses, as if something is dead

Rapunzel- Moment in time

Rapunzel writing!

Sentence - She scolded him fiercely for daring to enter and steal from her garden.

My Version
She firmly clenched his fragile, greasy wrist, twisting the demolished rapunzel plant out of his trembling hand. Her eyes narrowed as she glared into his unforgivable soul. His shameful body dropped to the ground full of sorrow, he begged and pleaded for her to let him go. She called for the guards to drag the rotten thief deep into the dungeons.

Weekly Reflection!
What does SDL mean to you?
I think that SDL is an important time to catch up on work you haven't finished or your behind on. I think if we had no SDL time the we wouldn't get thing done in time and we wouldn't have time to do anything we want to do for example Ukulele.
Have I been able to complete tasks on time or am I behind?
I am behind on some of my tasks and I need to manage my time. I am ahead on some of my tasks, like maths buddy. I need to focus more on my writing and scratch.
Will I use SDL time to make sure I am focusing on my personal inquiry?
I am using SDL to do some of my personal inquiry but I think I'm doing more of it at home. I am up to date for my personal inquiry so I don't need to use SDL to do that.

This Day In History

Air-show accidentally burns spectators!
This Day in History

About this accident-

On this day in 1988 an air-show was held at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Three jets collide in the air killing 3 pilots instantly, it burned the spectators killing 30 of them and injuring the rest.

The jet that caused the collision was led by Lieutenant Colonel Ivo Nutallari, the Lieutenant told his team to attempt a crossover move. The Lieutenant miscalculated this move and his jet collided with two more jets, the three jets exploded in the air spraying jet fuel over the spectators.

Germany then banned air-shows for 3 years. Now they are allowing air-shows to happen again but the jets have to fly away from the spectators.

L.O- To develop something that go on the radio.
This disaster was probably on the radio, I did find many news articles on this.

This Day in history!

This day in history is something we participate in Ruma C every morning. It involves searching up what happened on this day, but a different year. With our creation, we also have to do a so what. A so what is when we explain why this is important to know, and why we should learn about these things. Today we chose to do a blackout shot. Thank you for looking at my blog.

The Three Little Pigs!

WARNING: This story is gruesome. There is DRUG and ALCOHOL use!

Weekly reflection

Weekly reflection!!
Am I on task?
I think that I am on task most of the time, the only thing that would put my of what I'm doing is listening to music. I am getting thing done, all I need to do is writing, maths and other things. I'm feeling proud with myself and of what I have achieved. The thing I need to focus on is my maths. I need to stop talking to my friends all the time last week I wasn't on task.
Am I managing my time well?
I think I am managing my time pretty good, I have done everything I have need to this week. I need to do my writing and I should've started it but I haven't. I have finished my kiwi kids news and I have been doing things ahead of time.
Is trello working for me?
I think that trello is a guide for me, it really helps me with what I need to do. I can look in the overdue tasks and do the things that I need to do. I don't really use my own list, which I need to do.

Quick write

Paperback writer!
Aria slowly walks down the street, her long, silky black hair swaying behind her. Her blue eyes dart from people to people trying to find her best friend Mia. Her friend walks up to her with a confused and disgusted look on her face, Aria’s friend was dressed a girly dress but Aria wore her best sweatpants, her plan t-shirt and her nike sneakers. Mia loved her friend not because of what she wore, but because she was sweet, kind and she had a good taste of music (Jazz)!

This day in history!

For today's this day in history I worked with Mary, Toby and Cameron. We did it on the fire traps 262 miners.

Mysterious explosions in Colombia!
This Day In History

By Emily & Mary

About this article
There were 20 trucks loaded with dynamite, these trucks stopped in Buenaventura. 13 of these trucks headed to Bogato, the other 7 were going to a different location so they were parked overnight. Just after midnight the 7 trucks blew up killing over 1,000 people and injuring thousands of people. It is still a mysterious today, no one knows why the trucks blew up.

So What?
These trucks were fully loaded with dynamite and it is very dangerous, these trucks killed over 1,000 people and injuring many people as well. It just shows that trucks shouldn’t be carrying explosives everywhere because you don’t know when they might explode.

Weekly reflection

Weekly Revision
Most of the week I was sick so I didn't get much done, all I did when I was sick was my email to Ronald Mcdonald House for my personal inquiry. At school I did some of my writing but I think I should've done more of it. I completed some of my tasks that I was asked to. I think that I am getting into rhythm now. I also completed my Kiwi kids news. I am glad that I completed things I needed to today.
